thanks for all the responses guys. you have me thinking on both sides of the coin.. (which is exactly what i wanted) unfortunetly with my back getting worse (just had cortisone injections last week) the leafspring front end of my current F350 may make my choice for me... i have been driving my wifes fiesta for the last week and my back felt fine, got back in the F350 today and my back did not agree to say the least. i test drove another 6.7 earlier and thanks to the new suspention my back felt great. so as soon as i am able to sell my jeep and truck, it looks like a i will be going for a new ride

Wow, if you do, it will be the first time I've heard of someone buying a current model Super-Duty for medical reasons!

Sir, I'm recovering from back surgery now. I'm 39, work a desk job, but still lift weights like 25. Messed myself up bad. If you feel so much pain that you need to consider a softer suspension (different vehicle) you may need to get that back fixed by a surgeon. It was the worst pain I ever felt for a few days and after that it's been pure short-term disability relaxation and bed rest. I still have several weeks of recovery to go. I have 0 regrets about the surgery. Totally worth it!

I bought a seat cushion that I put in my truck seat which helps a bit with comfort. 20$ from Walmart auto section. Put it this way, if you got in an accident in one of these 6.7 trucks I bet you'll be injury free.

I'm sorry to read about all these back issues. I'm on the list too but mine is just a rotated disc that flares up now and then.

What we need to do is get together and find a custom seat shop. The factory seats are ok but really at the lower back the seat offers no support, it's a hole that my back like to sink into. The little lumbar air bag is really no help. We need a nice leather seat with nice padding and well placed support, with heat of course.

Do it

I had an 07 F250 XLT, had injections and surgery on L4/L5. Would NOT take a long road trip in old bessie. Wife lost her job, sister getting married, road trip in the new 2012 LARIAT was being proposed by wife. Finally gave in and WOW what a very enjoyable experience. I turn on the heat to 3 lights (high) feels good on the back. My bottom was not sore, so many adjustments on the seat, and lumbar adjustment actually stays. Loved the road trip, got 19 MPGs going 70, kids had fun in the back (roomy) and electric sliding rear window was great so I could put the big cooler out there and open the window from the front for the son to get me a pop. Well worth the extra dough, PLUS it out pulls my old 6.0L like....no comparison. F350 suspension definitely, is still smooth. But one additional purchase you will need is the bilstien shocks to replace the branded rancho ford shocks. I only did my rear shocks because of the hiway hop which my back didnt like after an hour or so of that, disappeared after Bilstiens...a must.

Ruschejj,

All kidding aside I would pay a considerable price for a custom back supportive seat over anything else. I used to drive an Escalade and it's seat was getting too soft which influenced my decision to get a new vehicle. Maybe you're onto something here. Refreshed seats would be a great incentive to keep. The only other factor for me is displacement. I'll keep this truck until Ford comes out with something even more powerful.

The lumbar (on full) on my XLT is right where I need it on my back.
I have little luck on other vehicles with my lumbar needs.

Joel,

Just wondering, would King Ranch seats fit in our Lariet's? Don't know if they are any more comfy or not. They look softer. Not sure of the options and the fitment.

Good question Ron. I will do some google work sometime and see about custom interior seats. As much as we need our trucks, use them, and as long as we keep them, might be a sensible thing to invest in real seats custom fitted.

I found this website and contacted them. They make custom seats particularly for trucks. If they can provide seats which support injured back truck owners maybe they have a solution to vehicle "turnover". Like I said when I do eventually trade in or buy elsewhere it will likely be due to worn out soft seats. Maybe I won't have to?

By the way I'm 4 weeks post op and I made a 3 hour round trip today to visit family. Bad move. I was in tears by 10pm. Of course refrained from med use for safety sake. If only someone could make quality replacement seats at a reasonable price I bet many of us would refrain from wasting cash on lifts, tuners, and so on for those of us with bad backs.

OOps just saw above link, they also offer suspension for Ford truck seats which may help. Just click the truck link and see.
