Hello everyone, I have a question, My 91 x Has 12,000 miles on a rebuilt engine. The engine is making a ticking sound ( I have asked a couple of mechanics who think that its a Lifter, or Piston)
The guy who I purchased it from lost the reciept for the first oil change , so the engine shop will not honor the warranty.
Is this something that can be fixed relativly cheap? The people who heard the sound definitly thing its coming from the top of the engine.
Thank you all in advance,
Rob
Valves, thats what clicking. The lifting and dropping of the valves as the the pistons rise and fall create that clicking sounds you hear. I have the same thing going on with my 4.0 with the original engine now.
I too have the same problem, but was told that putting an engine additive to quiet the lifters might do more damage than good, does this sound right? So far what I've done is I'm running 20/50 weight oil in it, she's quieted down a bit but still rattles when running. I've also been told to put a lead additive in with each tank of gas. Any other cheap fixes would help greatly as my cash needs to be saved for beer funds! )
