Question Oil Bypass

I want to install an oil bypass filtration system on my 95 Aerostar. Seems like the sending unit would be an easy enough place to tap the pressure side, but where can I return the oil to? Is there a plug somewhere on the block I pull to get the clean oil back in the crankcase? Thanks,
John

Oil Bypass

I assume you want to do this to use an external filter. If so the best thing is to purchase an adapter which screws into the place where your stock filter does now. These are available from companies such as Canton Racing Products and are common in race cars.

I have no idea if they make a model to fit your engine. While there may be a place elsewhere in your block to return oil I would be extremely leary of doing so unless you know the exact flow diagram of your engines internal oil routing system. The usual path is from the filter to an oil galley that feeds the main bearings in a designed order. Just tapping into the galley through a side plug can really screw up your oil distribution making the pressure very low in some of the main bearings. The adapters mentioned above just pull the oil from the filter entrance and return it to the filter output. When plumbing the system use big enough lines so you don' t have a severe pressure drop to and from the remote filter.

Hope this helps
