PCV? Please Help Soon!

Hello everyone, got a problem I need help with. I went out a while ago to put my new K&N kit on, opened up my air filter box, and I found a heavily stained filter, an oil soaked breather filter, and a small puddle of oil sludge in the bottom half of the box. I pulled the box out, wiped it down, cleaned the vent hose for the crankcase which was in good condition. I then pulled the the PCV valve and its rubber hose out and inspected them. The valve was good, the hose is pretty dry rotted. So I put them back in, started the engine and let it idle down, but I was getting good suction from the valve when I put my thumb on it. I felt around the hose and the manifold fitting, but it all seemed good. Im at my wits end at the moment. What else can cause this if my PCV system is checking good and what can I do? Thanks in advance. (Please help!)

More than likely your engine is getting weak. The problem with vacuum crankcase evacuation is that when ring blow-by is the greatest (under load) then vacuum is the lowest. Essentially blow-by has overwhelmed the PCV to the point that the crankcase vapors are backing up into the airbox. Your truck will probably run fine for a long time yet but you'll need to keep an eye on those filters and clean/replace more often.

I sure appreciate your advice Randy. Im gonna do more research on ring blowby. From the very little I do know about it, I suppose I should expect it, cause my truck is gettin high in mileage, even though I do try to keep it pretty well maintained.
Would it not be smart to put a K&N filtercharger on now, or could it still be kept clean? Trucks gettin old, so Im tryin to do what I can to alleviate the stress till I gotta rebuild it.
Thanks again! Ive definitely been enlightened.

Actually the K&N is an excellent idea for your situation. The K&N is cleanable so you'll save on buying replacement paper filters.
