I have a 1994 F150 XLT 5.0 with the AOD trans. My problem is with the overdrive on/off switch on the gear shift. When the truck is in park or reverse I can use the switch ie the little off light lights up. When I put the truck into drive, the light goes out, and I cant get it to come back on. So has anyone else had this happen? what did you do to fix it? Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I had a problem with my switch where the light would flash intermittently. It finally quit working all together and I replaced the push button switch with the led and it works fine now. It is about $12 from FORD. I am unsure whether your problem is related to the switch/led or something else though. Maybe someone else has had a more similar problem to yours.
Ground,
I had the same problem recently w/our 96 E4OD bronco. The fuse blew due to one-time short under the steering column/dash area. This fuse hasn't blown again. The area where the steering column controls (wiper/turn signals and TCIL switch) wiring harness travels through is a known problem due to the intallation during vehicle assembly.
Somehow, by loosening the underdash trim panel next to the fuse box when testing for a short ckt., the short was fixed.
here is my original post:

and a pic of the TCIL assy and how to replace it.

AIM, thanks for the info. Tomorrow I will try to troubleshoot the short. I already replaced the switch, but that did not fix it. I am hoping its something easy, not the whole multifuction switch. Thanks again.
IT'S FIXED!!!!!! I finally got the chance to tear up my column and find the problem. What I found was this:
There are three wires coming out of the gear shift that go up to the on/off switch. On my truck the wire bundle was caught under the gearselector and it severed all three in half. I simply stripped the wires and soldered them together and put some heat shrink orund them. I then wire tied it out of the way. It works like a champ now. Hope this helps someone else.
