351M smog control

I need experts to tell me whether it's best to remove my pollution control stuff or keep it. I'm upgrading my 351m and was going to get the Edelbrock Intake w/EGR and add a 4v carburetor.

This with a RV type cam had me thinking I'd get somewhat better gas mileage along with the performance boost.

So far good. But, after realizing that by adding a 4V carb to an engine originally equipped with a 2v carb means I don't meet requirements anyway, I thought well, get rid of it all then. Except some here say it mucks up the performance somehow.

What to do? Get the Edelbrock intake without the EGR? Is that the best for operating efficiency?

351M smog control

weither to keep egr for me came down to the age of my truck, the fact there is no smog station because of my state. So think of state, age of vehicle and what if any smog testing is being down.
If you can ditch the egr, then ditch it and make some **** power.

That makes one for one against. State isn't currently doing testing, but that could change since we're out of attainment here.

I've purchased the EGR valve and after thorough cleaning have working check valves and don't yet know about rest, will be looking at the air pump soon.

This means that I'll follow the recipes here and in reference material to put it back by the book temporarily--will be first fixed up to get it running and check out the transmission swap I have to do.

Once I understand how it is supposed to be and can move it closer to me, I'll pull the motor for rebuild. It's for the rebuild, my first, that I'll be buying the new carb, intake, cam, pistons etc.

Got to the machine shop to discuss my rebuild. They said dump the EGR since we're not testing here... as far as performance difference they said they have to compensate for other affects modifications create so this would be no different.

Looks like I'm back with the Edelbrock 2171
