fuel system trouble

i have a 1992 f150.i parked the truck for about 15 min. and when i tried to start it the pumps wouldn't work in the on position. tracked it down to the selector switch and replaced.now the pumps will hum in the on position but aren't pumping the lines up. any suggestions? i should add that both pumps were working before this happened.

The only thing between both fuel pumps and the fuel rail is the fuel filter. Have you replaced it or removed the line running to it then checked for fuel?

There is a test port on the fuel rail so you can check the fuel pressure with a gauge.

don't understand how two pumps take a dump at one time but today i jumped the pump off of the battery after pulling the lines off the pump. it hummed and hummed but no gas . guess i'll try a new pump.

o.k. I've replaced one relayand swapped the other with the horn relay. I've checked theshut off switch and replaced fuel selector switch. I've also changed the inline filter. traced electric back to the pumps.with the key on I've 12v at the pump and the pump would hum but not pump fuel. I got mad and threw a new pump at it....same thing. any ideas ? help, please! I keep thinking about fixin' it with a 12ga.

From Post# 4: "Have you replaced it (fuel filter) or removed the line running to it then checked for fuel?" I see you replaced the filter, did you pull the line leading to the fuel filter then check for fuel? Jumper pins 2 & 6 on the Diagnostic port, then turn the key on. This will keep the pump running all the time. Much easier to diagnose the problem.

Just for grins.........

When you turn the key to "on" (not start) does the fuel pump run/prime for 1-2 seconds then shut off or do they run continiously ????

Just lookin' for a little piece of the puzzle that may be missing.......

Sounds like you missed wired the selector switch. I think you are sending gauge power to the pump and a full 12 to the gauge sender.

If not that you have lost the ground at the radiator drivers side.

Glad you found it and got it fixed.
Hope you do not have a cross flow problem now.
First time I have heard of that recall pressure line check valve sticking closed. I hope you took it off and pitched it. They were meant for the 1993 trucks that had the bad fuel pressure regulators and someone put it on your 1992. That was a cheap fix for the blown out check valves in the 1993 trucks FDM as Ford did not want to replace all of the FDM's on the 1993 trucks that had the bad pressure regulators.

X2...thanks for the feedback. I overlooked that check valve as well. Never heard of one going bad in that fashion.
