Jerking while accelerating

My 2004 5.4 3V Lariat with 76,000 miles on it just recently starting "jerking" while accelerating. It only does it a couple of times (sometimes none) when I drive. Im thinking the COP but it may be a spark plug issue also. Im getting really tired of my truck doing this. Help

I would put money on the plugs. I would search the site and educate yourself a bit prior to replacing them. Kind of a scary job on the surface but not that bad once you understand whats going on. Not a huge deal in the driveway with the lisle tool on standby. I would strongly reccomend using Motorcraft plugs, they have an updated design since your build. After you replace them if you still have a stumble then it is time to start attacking the COPs. You Gots to do the plugs first to eliminate them as the culprit. I did mine at 67k and they were shot, check out my pic. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/m...7k-06-5-4.html
Good Luck! Shawn 06' 2wd 5.4 3v

Thanks buddy. Yeah I just seems like a pain. I'm gonna change tr fuel filter today and see If its just not getting fuel cause the filter is clogged and if that doesn't help ill do the plugs and so on. Wish me luck hope something small and inexpensive does it.. That tool you are talking about...will that help?

I am watching a similar issue on my 06. My mechanic thinks it could by my overdrive computer as it usually happens around 40-50mph. Don't know if it happens at a specific speed but that could be an issue.

I agree with Cofcmsc, it is probably the plugs. If not, they still need changing & sooner is better. I had mine done in under 3 hours without needing the Lisle 65600 I bought. I ran two tanks of Techron & and used an 18v impact on a warm engine.

I had jerking around 40-50 mph when light on the throttle. If I let off or downshifted it would go away.

FYI - Advanced Auto stocks these plugs & I got them for 40% off by using their "refer a friend" program.

I hope this helps. Good luck.
