Does it do any harm to the 6.0 diesel engines to let them idle for extended times like warming up in the mornings, while running into a store, or while loading a boat on the trailer?
I doubt even letting it warm up for 15 minutes in cold weather is going to hurt anything. I think the problem lies in prolonged idling every time the truck is used like in ambulance type service or constantly idling in traffic in large cities where you are never able to get out and stretch her legs so to speak ie: getting her up to freeway speeds daily.
My 2006 has a High-Idle that kicks in after a few minutes in cold start-up. Works well. While going into a store or launching a boat, God I hope that wouldn't clog up the EGR on our tempermental systems. We've all been caught in traffic jams for longer than that.

Exstensive idleing is not good for any diesel but especially so for the 6.0.
The trucks in our fleet do to the nature of their work idle nearly all day. Constantly have to clean EGR's Turbo's and intakes from carbon build up, fuel mileage is non existant and we had a lot of injector issues and overheat problems from all the idleing.
Best advice is take it out and exercise it as often as possible.
