Diff. window registers? manual VS electric?
Havent posted in some time, havent needed to
On my 03 F250 reg. cab Im trying to convert my riders side door window from a manual crank to an electric motor. I have the right side motor. I opened to door up and I must say Ford apparently is not a fan of letting people access the inside of the door. I unbolted the register and can find no way to mount the electric motor anywhere. There are no mounting holes for it, there is little clearnance for it, and the point where the crank gear meets the main gear for the window is riveted closed.
Does anyone know if Ford actually uses a different register when electric windows are ordered on a truck? I find this hard to believe but i guess its possible.
If anyone can she some light on this I would be most greatful!
Here is a link to the actual motor i have:

I've done this conversion a couple of times, and it's been my experience the power window regulators are different than the manual ones. Not only the motor mounting holes being absent, but the entire configuration of the regulators.
On one of the mods I did, the manual unit crossed over itself, and the power unit was a straight arm! Mechanical advantage, maybe?
Check with your dealer, I bet you'll find different parts numbers, descriptions and pictures. Shouldn't be too hard to find at the wreckers.

Thanks for the response! Right you are, stopped by Ford today and they do in fact use two different regulators for man/elect. Funny thing is, its $38.00 for the electric motor regulator and $54.00 for the manual!!
This means when you spec manual windows its actually costs Ford more, yet still there is no charge for manual windows, in an XL....wierd huh?
Electric windows are cheaper, and Ford charges you more! Then again there is the expense of the electric motor so I guess electric in the end is still more expensive. I just thought it was wierd that the manual regulator costs more LOL
Thanks again Karic
Let me know how the whole process works out. I would like to do the same thing to all 4 doors on my 2000. Did you replace the door panels as well? I'd like to see some before & after shots when you're done.
Regards,
Jeff
