hi everyone, i have a 95 f150 with a 5.8 in it. the problem that im having is my oil gauge goes crazy once the truck warms up and at an idle. go higher rpms the gauge is fine. my dipstick reads full and i've had this problem since i got the truck bout 4 yrs ago. i put a new sending unit on and it fixed the problem for about 2 days. Does anybody of any explanation of why this is happening or what i can do to fix this?
It's not really a gauge, it's more of a glorified idiot light. If the needle is off the red line, it's above 7(?) PSI.
The simplest possibilities for the problem are a clogged screen on the pickup tube, or a failing oil pump. If it's not one of those, it's major internal problems with the engine...
thanks. im not sure what to do because the guy i bought it from had pulled the motor and redid the bottom end and put a new oil pan on it, and he also had very experienced ford mech. helping him so should i just keep running it til it dies cuz im probably gonna pull the motor at some point and rebuild it anyway and possible find a 5 speed tranny to put in
ok Thanks I'll give that a try cuz its bout due for a change anyway and even to clarify it before someone asks is it even jumps on a fresh oil change lol
I put a brand new (motorcraft) sender in mine and it worked for about 3 minutes. Now it reads fine with KOEO but goes to beyond zero with the truck running.
I'd put a mechanical gauge on it. It's a 1/4" NPT hole.
I did it to mine and the mech gauge read 65 psi at idle.
