My 1990 F150 2wd has a poping and snaping under her.
Tried useing the impact on the cross member bolts, no change.
Was wondering if any one might know what it is?
Rick.
On my 88 with the Mazda 5 speed I was getting a creeking
sound when you would take off or backup up. I found hair
line cracks in the support cross member that holds the
rear transmission housing. There were many small cracks
around the two bolt holes where the transmission mount is
.
there have been several posts about loose or broken rivets.A loose rivet may be hard to detect. If this is the case, you have to grind the head off and replace with a grade 8 bolt, the largest size that will fit in the hole. Torque it down tight!(any rivet-esp. spring hangers, crossmembers ect.)
Also u-joints WILL make popping sounds , more noticeable taking off, shifting in forward or reverse, leave your door open and listen to the drive shaft, while trying both directions.
