I need a little help here.... my 8" is on order, and have really been pondering buying a 3.5 or 4.5" hanger system within the next year or so... that would make it at around 11.5 inches....at that height is cross-over steering a must? what exactly is it, and what does it do? any pictures?....also does anyone make a track bar braket for that much lift? thanks in advance
Look at the front end of a '79 Ford 4x4 and you'll have a pretty good idea of what crossover steering looks like. You'll need an adjustable trac bar to go with the drop bracket.
I say anything over 8" of suspension lift should have Crossover steering and trac bar relocation. It will reduce the amount of stress on the sector shaft and not allow the drag link to run in to the passenger side leaf pack. It will also make steering a little bit easier.
Crossover steering relocates the lower mount of the drag link from below the leaf pack to above the leaf pack.
Trac Bar Relocation is needed with the crossover steering in order to avoid any problems with bump steer. It will relocate the upper mount from outside the engine crossmember to inside the engine crossmember and the lower mount to the top of the passenger side leaf pack.
There are a few options for the crossover: ORU, Donahoe, and I think Truckin' and Full Throttle (?) are supposed to be coming out with one
For the trac bar relcaion: ORU and Donahoe are the ones I know of.
Or, for a pretty nice kit you can get the Dynatrac SD Combo......Click Here to see a few pics of the install of it.
SuperStroker! i see your from S.A. too!! howdy....anyway you ever visit Maximum Altitude?? there up on NW410, they do 1000's of the new Fords from 2" to 40" of lift and do tons of custom work... they just came out with there own cross over steering and trac bar relocation, im going to post some pics today... looks like real quality stuff.. going to run about the same price.. but then no shipping and you can have them do the work and have customer service right in town!! give them a try.. If you just drive by Joey, the owner has there Xover steering and trac bar relocation on his X with 30some inches of lift, it sits out front, you could stop by and take a look.
