Sound after fuel filter change

I changed my fuel filters a couple weeks ago. When I opened the hood the other day i noticed a kinda hissing or sucking sound coming from the engine mounted fuel filter. I've watched epics video a couple time and think his made the same sound but not sure. I am just paranoid with all the hpfp problems. It runs fine and had no long starts or hesitation at all. Lemme know if you all have the same thing. I just can't remember if it sounded like that before. Thanks for the help. I have done the air purge properly and several times since changing the filters. I notice the sound while doing the air purge procedure with engine off and key on.

Noises are a normal for a number of purges and my noises seem to go away after 10-12 purges (I know the book says 6).
Several have said in the past the six should be fine and of course, Ford said 6.
This is the 7th and 8th purge cycles on my last filter change.
Ignore the buzz at the end, idk what that is.

I guess you made sure the engine mounted filter lines are secured?

Kper05,
Mine made the same kinds of noises yours did. I guess the best I can describe is like a high pitched whine almost like when a cat is pissed off. I changed them at least 500 miles ago. If you watch epics video at about 07:04 he says " how you can hear the fuel flowing" and there is a loud hissing noise heard in the background. Mine sounds exactly like that NOW and will not go away. My question is does everyone's continue to make that noise? The noise is in the engine bay, not underneath coming from the dfcm. So if when you have your key on, but engine not running and you all hear a hissing noise let me know, so I know its normal. But if after you've done your 6-12 cycles it doesn't make any sound, let me know cause I have a hell of an air leak, which I would like go get fixed.

Make sure the DFCM (frame mounted filter) cap is closed until it hits a hard stop. If so could be some residual air? I changed my filters yesterday and cycled the pump 15 times before starting. I let it idle for a few minutes and shut the truck off. Started it this morning a noticed it still sounded like it had some air in the system. Drove to work and started my truck to go to lunch and now it's quite.

good advice. definitely checked that, looks like the plastic tabs are meeting each other. both lines are also tight and not leaking anything. super strange. the air sound is under the hood at the filter but is pretty faint. have cycled it several times and have driven it and it has full pressure up to 30k, but still doing it. might just be this round of filters? not sure.

i was considering re-seating the DCFM since if i recall correctly, the system is designed to purge air at the top filter lines and that’s where it’s coming from, but that the air leak if any is likely at the vacuum side, in this case the DCFM.

it’s continuous enough that it both worries me runs fine and part of me says don’t open a can of worms haha

Yeah the sound is normal but this was the first time I had my head under the hood as my wife was in the truck doing the priming cycles -- just installed a DPK in my truck... it made the gurgling sound. The secondary filter was replaced 8k miles ago and that had fuel in it already. But when I've changed the fuel filters, yes, you can hear those sounds coming from the DFCM (11 to 16s) but I'm sure the 17s plus make the same noises as that primary filter after the tank fuel pump is a big filter to fill up...

yeah, i think it might just be this round of filters. i pulled the DCFM and upper lines and put it back together for good measure and it’s still doing it.

nice, did you get the s+s kit? i am at 200k with my cp4 and it’s doing fine, so i think i ask going to do the DCR pump instead.

Yes, the S&S Gen 2 kit with the SNAPP filter... I'm at 108k miles... Here's my thread in case you didn't see it...

I'll ride the CP4 as long as I can. If it blows, I have insurance with the kit and it won't take out the lines and injectors. Or if it doesn't, I'll keep on driving it...

But if the pump goes, then I'd pull the kit along with the CP4 and get the DCR pump...

hear you. I will likely just do the DCR as preventative eventually. 200k and i take good care of the fuel system.

This air noise is driving me nuts not knowing, but i will switch the filters out eventually here.

Checked out the thread, how was the install?

The install went okay... I'm not an experienced mechanic by any stretch and being 56, not in good shape but decent, so muscles got a little sore, okay maybe a more than a little, but it's a lot of little things to do to get to the little thing to put on the pump.

I'm glad I did it but truthfully it wasn't fun. If I had to pull above the intake manifold again, it most likely be easier because now I know what to expect and do...

I watched Thoroughbred Diesel's video on a 11 to 14 truck for reference... Took notes as that's how I retain things...

I also know what happens when the cold pipe breaks or pops, what it sounds like and how the truck acts...

All I can add or suggest to you is that you may want to think about purchasing and installing their kit as you may get tens of thousands more miles before the pump goes... Plus what's nice is that you will still be able to drive the truck if the pump goes with the filter on... Plus God forbid if the pump goes before you replace it with the DCR pump...

Do you run an additive?

It is incredibly funny that you message today asking. No, I didn't. It has continued doing it for three fuel filter changes, on and off.

I think there might be a restriction, or some kind of leak, though no diesel is present anywhere along the frame rail or anywhere else - that or it is the level of fuel in the tank which is what others have been recommending.

Today, my DFCM started whining because I had let it get low on fuel, not being able to find a station with diesel anywhere where I was, which was super bizarre. Put 3/4 a tank and its still doing it.

Really just a weird coincidence that you are now having this issue. It has to be air somehow, some way. Can you send me a video? I will message you my digits if you want. I wonder if it is the same. That or post one to youtube and put it here!

I will get a video and try to put it on here, mine has done it for the last 15k miles and I can't figure it out. it seems like maybe one of the quick connections going into or out of the filter is doing it but I can't find it. my filter will whine and squeel sometimes now too but it will go away if I cycle the key once for 30 sec. so I think there has to be air getting in somewhere, I have heard of air getting in through the sending unit in the tank but haven't dropped mine yet to see. there is a couple posts on a FB Ford 6.7 diesel group that have the exact same thing as mine but no body has fixed it yet. I'll try to get a video and post it
