I think if you could find one they would be so expensive they would empty a wallet. They take about 20min to rebuild.

if it is an 83 you are going to want to buy a later model used one, the early oring setup is prone to leaking. So a complete setup with both headers would be good. I would have one but a customer never returned the exchange core.

You can get them, but your not going to want to pay what they want
I'd try a wreckers first see if they have any old engines ou can rob one off of.

I just recently put new o-rings in a 86 6.9. We could only get them from the stealership and one diesel shop. The diesel shop said that the early models had a four o-ring set-up. From what I understand, the early models are the only different ones. 6.9 and 7.3 (up to 94 1/2) take the same o-rings. The front heads on the oil coolers are different from the E series and the F series. Also, the diesel shop o-rings were FORD items anyway, so it would be cheaper just to get them from the stealership.

Your welcome.I like to help anytime I can.I only knew this because we purchased an 86 E350 25 passenger van at church. The motor was gone. Only got 76,000 on the od. We bought a motor out of an 86 F250. Needless to say, we learned the differences. The HARD way!

Hmmm learned something new here! Didn't know early model oil coolers were different, and prone to leaking.

How many years did this "early" design of coolers went on for? From 83 to what year?

Not positive, but I think they changed it in 84. Pretty sure the 85's are the two o-ring style, which is the new design.
