I've got an 07 F-250 6.0 PS. Will not turn over or start. It just clicks when the key is turned, guages go wild. Today, the interior lights joined in with the guages. Batteries have been checked and charged to 100%, some fuses checked. Sure would appreciate some genious help.
Yes. Disconnected the termials, cleaned them, hoped it would reboot and clear any issues that may be causing the glitch. Put my charger on the batteries first, checked voltage, percent charged, all good. Checked fuses next, and scanned anything on this web site that looked remotely related looking for a place to start. Trying to avoid a towing charge on top of parts and labor costs that may be necessary if repairs are over my head.
Now, it's something else in addition to starter click, or maybe I turned the switch so fast the first time I didn't notice. Turn key to position just prior to starting, interior lights dim, guages flutter. Continue turning switch to attempt start, clicks and guages flutter in unison.
But it's before that. Turn switch on, wait on glow plug lights to go out, none of that is happening. Lights dim, etc... A seized up starter won't cause it to do that will it?
Like Senix said, go ahead and tap on the starter housing. Could it be a bad ignition switch or starter relay? I dont know how to test those but they come to mind.
hang on here when you turn the key to on dont you have a wait to start light (as in the glow plugs come on) this happens to be a large current draw....call the wrecker get it to a diesel mech...
When you say the batteries were checked, how were they checked?
I just had a similar experience on my '08 6.4. Day after Thanksgiving in Texas where it was NOT cold. Turned it on, glow plug indicator lit, went out, turned the key and after one turn the engine would not turn. Turned it off and tried again and like you, the guages went wild but no error code reported by my ScanGuage. Used my son-in-law's Rover to jump start it (I will never hear the end of that). Once started, everything showed good. Ran fine, multiple starts during the rest of the day with no problems. Next morning, nothing at all except for the guages going wild. Pulled the batteries and went to AutoZone. One battery failed the load testing and the other passed, barely.
So again, how did you test the battery? A pair of new batteries fixed me up. I just hated to fork out the cash this close to the holidays.
