I have a 96 F-250 power stroke 2WD with a dead automatic transmission, I've found a 98 model with a good low mileage transmission are the two compatible ??
When you say a '98 model, what do you mean? There was no '98 F250 with a PowerStroke diesel.
Your '96 likely has an E4OD (some fleet vehicles still got the old C6). What you need is an E4OD from behind a diesel, as the diesel had its own bellhousing bolt pattern, preferably a '95-'97 F250HD or F350.
actually there were Jason. they were left over 97's tagged as 98's in Canada. not sure on the F-250 part though, but i bought 4 98 F-350 diesels and 2 gassers at auction for the other company
The 98 model refered to is out of a box van. I've not seen it. A friend of a friend found this and says it shows 102K miles. It is a 7.3 powerstroke Diesel. As far as the E40D....I'm not sure.
Thanks for your response !
If you have overdrive, it's an E4OD. The gear indicator will read P R N (D) 2 1, plus you'll have a button on the end of the lever. If it's a C6, there won't be a button on the end of the lever, and the indicator will read P R N D 2 1.
It should be. I'd double-check the tranny pan--if it's the same (20 bolts), then you should be good to go. I'm not sure when they switched from the E4OD to the 4R100. The 4R100 would fit, I'm sure, but may not be compatible with your computer. Those more knowledgeable than I would have to chime in.
