FS 2500 oil bypass filtration system

I'm going to install the FS 2500 oil bypass filtration system with my next oil change. I've been hauling a lot of heavy trailers up and down the mountain passes lately and will probably be hauling my 5th wheel camper further from home in the future. Work drive distances have also increased with the poor economy so I am putting many more miles on the truck than I used. I currently change the oil every 3000 miles but would like to extend that to cut down the frequency of oil changes. It is also a pain to change the oil when you are 2000 miles from home.

The question I have for other FS 2500 filtration system owners is how far are you able to extend oil life? How many miles are you getting with synthetic oils between oil changes?

i have been doing 5,000 mile oil changes on the IDI for the past 300,000 miles, and 7,500 mile changes on the 02 for the past 100,000 miles with no problems without any additional filtering over stock..

My last Blackstone report advised to go 10k on this interval. I am using the FS2500 and Rotella syn 5w40. Truck has 310k on her. Don't know if this helps you or not.

I also run the FS2500 and run Shaeffer's 7000 oil about 6-7K.

I dont have a FS2500 yet but I run Schaeffer's full syn 9000 series with the big baldwin oil filter to 5k.

My oil analysis shows its good beyond 5k. I did run one time to 7k and it showed good... I just dont wanna push it without a bypass.

With my heavy pulling the 7000 will not shear down as fast as other oil is why I use the 7000.

I know the Schaeffers synthetic oil is good stuff. My friend who owns an excavation company and has many pieces of heavy equipment and diesel trucks swears by it. I can get it in 55 gal barrels through him but no one locally stocks Schaeffers as I live in a small town 60 miles from the next small town, 120 miles to the closest place that would carry Schaeffers. Walmart or Napa are where you have to get oil - they always stock Rotella and sometimes Rotella Synthetic.

I am trying to get an idea of how far a Powerstroke can go between oil changes with a good oil filtration bypass system. What is the average distance the oil analysis have come back with the oil needing to be changed. Filtration Solutions is claiming around 15,000 miles. Obviously I will have my oil analyzed from the start to see what works in my truck. Just curious what others have found to work for their oil change intervals.

It will all depend on how heavy you tow and how hard your run it.

Its hard for me to answer your question because three times in a row I had anti freeze in my oil. I went 11K, 9k and 8K until I finally replaced my oil cooler to correct that problem. Before these tests I was running roltella T syn and sheared the oil. Its been one thing after another so I really don't know how long you can run it. I like having it though.

Thanks for the info, looks like you tow a lot also. Even 9,000-10,000 between oil changes is tripling my oil change frequency. Oil analysis will let me know for sure. My truck sees lots of towing but not typically long distance highway miles. Mostly 4X4 back mountain roads, job sites hauling trailers and mountain passes down to the desert with the camper to escape the endless winters/cold. I've customized my 5th wheel to go places most would never consider pulling their rig - gooseneck conversion and lifted suspension with skid plate under the master bed/above the pickup bed for the serious off camber/water bars of the mountain/desert back country. We stay comfortable even when the temps drop well below 0*. Summers we never leave - kind of the reverse of most 5th wheel campers.

Every truck is going to be unique. I figure keeping the oil as clean as possible will be good for the truck no matter what as I plan to run it for many more years and when it comes time rebuild it as opposed to replace it.

Sounds like a usual 5er set up. I've had mine down to 14* with no problems, I don't know how far down in temps I could push it.

If you want to get in depth with your oil.... this is where I went to learn.

IIRC someone ran the same truck... the same distance with oil analysis performed at the same amount of miles. It was 3 different synthetics.. like T6, royal purple, and schaeffers.

All I remember is schaeffers ran cooler at operating temp and didnt show signs of shearing or as much ash until the other two had practically failed.
