So driving my black 68 f100 shortbed style side friday, and this white chevy blazer swirved right in front of me, trying not to clip the car in front of 'it' while on the highway. i tried to avoid hitting it but both of us ended up sliding out of control along the highway. the blazer missed the guard rails.... but my truck didnt. i hit them probably going 50mph. it spun me around then the back end of my truck it the rails. and thats what stopped me. by the time i got out of the truck the blazer was long gone.... i hate chevys
well im alright so thank God for that, worse could of happen.
the whole front end needs replacing. fenders, inner wells, grille radiator core support, hood now has a dent in it but it could be fixable. bumper is bent. passanger side wheel is gouged. both doors tweeked abit. tail light quarter is bashed in. and i musta bend one of the twin eye beams cause one will is turned in.
all fixable, and most needed to be patched or replaced. but i would of liked to of enjoyed her for a while before starting the restoration.

i just hope and pray the frame is tweeked. i can see dents and scrapes of where the bed and hit the cab. the driver side of the cab is sunk down about a 1/2 inch. the front cab mounts look to have taken some punishment. i just hope the driver side mount is compressed abit. the mounts needed replacing any how.
everything else seems to be fine.
ive never been one to 'what if' things that happen. but im pretty sure if i had a booster with disk brakes, and non-power steering. i think the out come would have been better. idk
do they make front/rear sway bar kits for these trucks
Craiger, Glad to hear that you are OK. May be a good time to back away from that truck a little. I had a similar incident happen, the truck is a thing not a person. You might want to look for another truck, while using parts from your current. I believe you will come out miles ahead in the end. I know there is a lot of emotion in the way just now, but a couple months from now it will have settled in & you will think more clearly.
Front and rear sway bars made by AddCo and Hellwig are available through Summit Racing. Swaybars is on my normal shopping list when in the salvage yards. I found a rear AddCo unit for my 70 bump. Serendipity.
A low-buck way to get a front sway bar is find one off a 78-79 Dentside since the front frame rails are the same width. I got the one pictured below off a 2WD Supercab Camper Special. You'll also need the C-brackets that are mounted by the radius arm/I-beam through-bolt.. I found a nearly torn apart 80s Econoline so they were relatively easy to remove. Total cost thus far for endlinks, the sway bar, and C-brackets is $50.
PM me if you're interested... I have two extra front swaybars -one OEM and one AddCo.
Glad your ok too. Man that sucks. Did you by chance have collision insurance on the truck? A friend of mine had someone run into the back of him and once the insurance company saw the truck they totalled it. They actually went by a parts book that my friend used to total up parts that was needed to fix the truck. (dont know why they would do that but they did) Anyway, the insurance company settled with him for $10K on the truck, even though his truck wasnt worth that much. He ended up buying another truck for $8k and pocketed the rest of the cash. The truck he has now is actually worth more than the one he had. Sometimes it pays to have good insurance on these old rides, even though in this case it was the other guys fault.

John
thanks john, that is some good advice. the trucks sitting in my garage so every time i go to work or what ever i see it. lol its hard. im taking off the front right now.
the guy i got the truck from is giving me a whole front clip. minus the grille. so that some good news.
though i dont know for sure, im assuming the frame is tweaked. any body know the average price of a frame straightening job would cost?
though it sucks that i only got to enjoy the truck for one week. most the parts that have been damaged i needed to patch or replace in the near future anyway. i just didnt want to do it right now lol. oh well.

liability only, i talked to my insurance guy off the record and he said most likely they wouldn't. and if they did they would probably total it, so they could give me less. and since the guy ran off and im 99.999% sure i didnt make contact with him. nor did anyone get a license #. no one else but your truly has to pay for it.

They need to be stored somewhere and linked here in the forum. The sites original owner fought hard to not support photos because they used so much real estate.

Hey, you didn't buy that flat black lifted bump that was on the top of the hill on 14 next to that used car lot, did you? I was looking at that truck for a little while.
I think I need to stop by and check it out. Sometimes I can straighten stuff other people would throw away. Let me know if you want me to.
