I am going to buy new tires for my '06 F250 4x4 and was wondering if anyone has tried the new Cooper AT3, my stock tires are 265/70/17 and am considering going larger to 285/70/17. Have always used BFG AT KO in the past.
I've been running the AT3 since April, so far wearing good, no road noise. Prior to the AT3 I ran the ATZ which they don't produce anymore and went with the AT3.
I like coopers and michelins its what i ran on my f-150 and f-250, never had much luck with BFG TA/KO's they seemed to last half as long as the coopers and michelins
I've been running 285's on stock wheels for 3 years with no problems. Previous set of tires were Hercules and I'll never buy them again. Would not balance and lasted about 20k miles. Running Firestone AT's now.
Will the 285 size be ok on my stock wheels? How much air should I run, the label in truck says 80 psi, seems too much.
The 80lbs is correct, BUT check your tires if you do not get load range E tires 80lbs will kill them instantly. There is a direct correspondence for tire pressure and load capacity. IMHO if you tow at all get load range E tires, other ranges may be cheaper up front but if you tow or haul anything in the bed you regret it later.
Yes I do pull a toy hauler of about 10,000lbs, the tire shop said that if I go with the 285's, to run around 55-60 lbs, no matter what the door sticker says. He also said to rotate every oil change to get the most life out of tire.

Assuming they are E rated tires 50-60 unloaded is okay and will give a more "comfortable" ride, but with the the trailer it will wear them out quickly. Just remember to raise and lower as needed. Rotation time frame is an excellent schedule.
Side note: I too am looking to "upgrade" to the 285's as well. Even considering the 305's, just hard to find some that are E rated. Soon as my current ones wear out which wont be long. So far the Goodyear Durratracs are my 2st choice, since I do enjoy a bit off-road travel :-)
I had BFG's from factory that lasted 38k miles and rotated them regularly. I decided to try Michelins and got 72K on them and still had 4-5/32" left. Just put another set of Michelins on it, got 15k on them and still in balance and drive great. For the mileage alone, the Michelins are worth it.
