I just bought a 2003 supercrew. Does anyone know if there is a way to get a 10" sub in the back without loosing the seating, or the folding function in the seats?
JL, Q-logic and MTX all make stealthboxes for your particular vehicle.
Here is the one JL makes. It includes a 12W3v2 (verrrry nice sub). It goes in the center console of the back seat. Check it to see if it might work. I warn you, though, I doubt it will be cheap>>>Click Me!<<<
Check Crutchfield for the Q-Logic and MTX Thunderforms.
I would measure the total clearance you have under the rear seats (W-D-H). A low profile 10, that fits in a small box, isn't hard to find.
Sometimes it's just better to do it yourself. Car audio and electronics magazine has an issue back in like Nov or Dec. that shows you step by step on how to make a custom box for under 100 clams. Its not that hard. It starts with you taping of the carpet after removing the larger seat. Next use cardboard to get a patern. Be sure to leave a inch or between the seat and top of the box pattern for speaker installation/excursion. Next re-install the large seat to ensure proper clearance, looks, seat operation. Make sure you dont make a pattern for the bottom because that will be fiberglass. Then use the pattern to make the front, back, sides, and top out of 3/4" MDF. Once they are cut and you are sure they will fit exact, assemble everything but the top. You will have to remove the large seat once again to ensure it will fit. After you are sure it will fit, remove both the large and small seat. Then staple trunk liner to the bottom of the box assembly and put it in position. Make sure you have thouroughly taped the floor and any thing that resin can get on. Generously coat the inside of the box with fiberglass resin/hardener. Do not mix the fiberglass to hot, or you will loose the shape of the bottom of the truck when the fiberglass hardens. After it hardens use fiberglass cloth and resing to the desired thicknes for the bottom of the box. 1/4 to 3/8 thickness is usually plenty. After the bottom has cured for a few days, install the top and wire the system up. I have made this box many times. It takes a little know how but it can save you some dollars. You can get 1.75 cu. ft. for two 10" subs. with upto 5.5" of mounting depth.
Hope it works for ya!! ExtremeF-150db....
There is a company on the net that has a box that fits behind your back seat. You just take out the panel and put it in. The company's web site is www.soundoffaudio.com. The box will fit 2 10's and the price isn't too bad. The price is 139 plus shipping. The company is on ebay also and selling a little bit cheaper but the shipping is higher.
Hey ultra blue, the link doesn't connect. I ended up using 2 8 inch woofers. The 10's would not fit without cutting into the seat etc. I have the MTX form and still get excellent sound. Enough to vibrate the windows if needed, and I mean easily. That link your trying to set up does sound interesting. Let me know..
Ultra Blue had an extra period on the end of the html address.
On your fiberglass boxes, do you sand the intereior of the box to the fiberglass smooth? Or is just by spreading it out as smooth as you can get it with the putty knife close enough?
Thanks txlnghrd for updating the link for him. I just typed the link in and ended the sentence so I guess it added the period for me onto the link. Well I just found another box at www.supercrewsound.com The box is called DoubleBarrel. It is cheaper than the box from soundoffaudio and also the mounting depth is higher. It goes underneath the seat but you can still lower the seat a little. The is pic's of the box and how the seat folds with it installed
