sheet metal will be a thing of the past in the next gen probably. lots of plastic/fiberglass cars out there now.

The sheet metal is actually high strength steel (compressed sheet metal). It is thinner, but it has more spring action to it, and surprisingly has more resistance to minor dings because of that. The cab structure and frame is very strong though, and that's where it counts in a collision. If anyone wants to see flimsy sheet metal, including bumpers, look at a Tundra. Our Fords will seem more substantial in comparison. Just my 2 cents.
