Just got my truck inspected and the inspector said Tx had a new law requiring mufflers on diesels! I had just installed a 4" turbo back straight pipe a coupla' months ago...so, I ordered the cheapest deal I could find, a PacBrake performance muffler from Power Products Unlimited for $83.35 delivered...not my favorite thing to do, but...anything to make the man and his financial contributors happy, I guess. Just a heads up to my fellow Texans...those that haven't had a ticket, yet.
went through this a couple years ago. had been straight piped since getting old green and always got inspected at the same location. was shocked when the guy told me he could not inspect it without a muffler.
luckily the old one was still laying around the shop, so $10 later it was back in. don't have time to deal with these kind of shenanigans anymore. sure miss the sound though......
This is why I'm glad I have an Aeroturbine muffler. Because of the conical jet engine design, it works better than a straight pipe, keeps you legal, and sounds like a straight pipe.

I am happy to hear this worked for you, I on the other hand Lost MPG after the install, and am truelly thinking 4040 xl
I'm gonna keep my straight pipe and just the local small shop as long as possible. Hopefully the keep hiring local idiots that don't keep up with the new laws.
AFAIK, the muffler law has been around for a while. I looked it up over year ago under Texas laws. They might just now be enforcing it though. I wonder how the guys with stacks are getting away with them. I guess I'm getting old. I like the sound of my 4" MBRP with the muffler.

Every damn vehicle has to have one now, and state troopers are checking. it will not be surprising if these tree hugging bunny humpers start requiring all vehicles to have catalytic converters are well.
years ago we had a car that acted like the engine was bad. we rebuilt the entire damn engine and it still ran like crap. found out one of the cats was plugged...... after that, we just cut them out. a few years later, it would not pass inspection, so we just hollowed them out and put them back.

As Roland said it started awhile back but most stations did not take the time to look.I have a 4'' exhaust like most on here and the muffler that came with it is pretty much a holler tube that muffles the sound a bit.
