HI ALL : back again.have a friend willing to show me how to put in a timing gear set...thank god...now the problem is that napa, autozone, checkers, etc, don't carry them this year.news to me,last year was o.k. but.....tried the online store,no luck their also.looked at some catalogs and difficult to get everything at one place.seems the 460 engine parts are getting difficult too.where do you all go for them.i'm leaning towards the summit catalogue and their house brands.are they pretty decent ?. i'm in need of a gasket, timing gear set, water pump and ft seal . thermostat.any info is good and some handy advice about putting it in.motor will be in the truck when installed. i think i covered it all.trying to keep things stock and kinda simple here.it;s a extra good running truck and money is a issue.thanks all....be good......................joezee
Be careful of p.A.W. They have a ad in the engine swap section and they sell a motor mount perch to mount a 460 into a 73-79 Ford F150 thru 350 and 78-79 Bronco. That's what the ad say's anyway's but when i was all happy to find this product and was on my way out to the shop to install the perch's they didn't even come close to fiting the F-250,and when I called them they said Oh no that's for 73-79 F-150,and 78-79 Bronco only. And of course I asked why the ad said differant they hung up on me!leson for me I guess So i wouldn't trust to much on what they have to say,but this is from my own exsperiance. L&L set me straight on this deal.

460 timing set 1974-1979 27.95 part number 2VY-6268-ST ( this is out of their august 2002 catalog that I just got)
There is a ton of stuff in this catalog!
check out the engine swap section of the paw catalog, that's the one I ordered my frame perch's from and the add say's will work on all 73-1979 ford F150thru 350 and 78-79 bronco, and then call them up and ask if they will work in a F250(79) and see the response you get.Stuff like this hurt's the low budget man trying to do the job the right way. This slowed my project down a tad,and time was a issue,so was $$$for that matter.i'm disabled on a fixed income,i count on what is told to me as truth! That's a real cool thing about this hear club.Everyone can help everyone and make big problem's small if posible
Another thing to consider if your going to replace the timing chain and gears is 74 and newer 460 sets were retarded 4 degrees at the crank. If you use an earlier set they were at 0 . Just something to think about for a little extra power at no additional cost.
i don't know about other product's,I was just real upset couse of the way my order was delt with. But they do have ALOT of item's in there catalog!I was just depending on them for the engine swap and I was let down.but L&L got me back on my feet and i had to ask but got great answer's.They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need.Which I thought was pretty cool.their price's are a little high but this is the U.S.A.,and you get what you pay for!
