Where does this part go?

I took this off my 1965 F250 4x4 during disassemble and have no clue where it goes. I took a bunch of pics and do not see it in any of them. I had it in the box with alternator and starter.

Does it hold a starter cable or heater hose?

Pretty sure it holds the heater hoses along the right inner fender.

There are two double clips attached to the inner fender for the heater hoses...

I was thinking it might hold the heater hose off the alternator, or hold the starter cable off the exhaust manifold..

I have a ton of pics showing the manifold..and i dont see it there...but you may be right on the starter cable..maybe bolted to the frame..that bend in it..is strange though...like there is a lip where it bolts to..

Do you have an auto trans? I have one looks similar the goes to a oil pan bolt then the cooling lines clip into it.

I have a starter cable one but does not look like that one. My guess trans cooler lines..

1965 F250 4WD

Bracket has nothing to do with heater hoses and it cannot be for trans cooling lines, as 4WD's were not available with an A/T until 1973.

Bracket probably related to one of the firewall mounted battery tray cables, or cable from starter solenoid to battery. Or the wiring harness that routes to the starter solenoid.

FTE member Buzz44 has a 1965 F100 4WD, which would be the same, so he probably knows. I found a pic of the battery tray, but catalog pic doesn't show the cable routings.

Speedo cable goes into clip that attached to lip on firewall.

Is it possible a engine swap was done at one time? Maybe got a engine from a auto trans vehicle? I still say its a trans cooling line clip even if yours had a manual trans.

Time for the thinking cap . . . Just that the clip looks like for 5/16 lines.

Im looking at your clip and dont recall ever seeing a clip like this on my 65 4x4 anyplace. On a guess it may be bolted to the frame and hold your breather hoses that come off the front and rear ends. These hoses are routed up into the frame and come of the breathers they are then clipped to the frame. I dont recall the clips on my truck being bolt on. The hoses are there to try and keep water from getting into your diffs if you drive in deep water. At least thats my take on them. Does your truck still have the hoses in place? If not you should put some there if you plan any off road use. No clips on my alt or starter either. Your hot starter lead should come down off the firewall at the starter relay and go directly to the starter bolt. I cant see why you should need a clip on that cable. It might come off one of your heater mounting bolts to keep the hot lead from the battery comming up the firewall in place. Mine did not have one but it looks like maybe one could go there. My truck was a pile so who knows what was removed before it got to me. My 63 4wd has no such clip either that I can remember. Ill keep scratching my head on it for a while and see what I can come up with. Good luck.

Edit: If you look at the firewall pic on either side of the battery and starter leads are two holes that look like maybe something bolted to firewall to hold or stabilize the cables.

Buzz,
I think you nailed this!!.. My front axel vent hose is hanging free..and I know it wasnt before I started. somebody before you had said that they had a similar clip mounted to their oil pan to hold tranny cooler lines. This clip sits perfectly in that area...I just can figure for the life of me how this hose went. There is a permanent shape to the hose ( from being in a position for so long..and nothing I do with it matches these bends. Does your front line head to the passengers side frame or the drivers side?..does the end of the hose stay opened.. or is there a special vent that gets put in the end?..

My front hose goes up and into the frame rail on the drivers side and goes in under the core support and ends just under the core support. No special end in the hose it just sits open and lays inside the frame rail. Im not sure which side the rear goes thru I think it is the drivers side too. I would if I were you make sure that the vents are clear on the front and rear ends. Mine were plugged with rust and grease. Im not 100% sure what the outcome of those being plugged would be. I do know they are there for a purpose so they should be made to function properly. Im guessing to help keep moisture from building inside of the housing or pressure buildup if the running gear starts to heatup on long drives. Got me
