Tail Gate

Hi all. In the process of repairing the body and bed of my truck, I have accumulated misc parts. One of these is a tailgate which is for a larger old F-series (1953-1956?). It's wider than my F-100 tail gate. It has a slight bend on the length at the hinge side, as if something too heavy was dropped on it at one time. It also has some very small rust spots at the same edge at the places where the gate receives the hinge pivots. Otherwise, it would probably be considered to be in good condition. In your opinion, does this have any value that makes it worth trying to sell? Or should I just sell it as scrap steel? I would prefer to see it used in a restoration project, and would be willing to give it away to anyone who has use for it, and who would pay for the shipping and packing. I figure the packing up and getting it to a shipper would run about $20. I have no idea what the shipping cost would be. I am in Vermont.

You may find that it is for an earlier truck.
Made that mistake once and bought an F3 tailgate thinking it would be the same. Don't remeber what part was to big, but it is to big.
Still have it, figure I will probably leave it all dented, clean and paint it, then get a set of chains and make a shelf I can fold up. Maybe even add a set of taillights while I'm at it.

If it is a larger tailgate it is definately worth something. There were by far more half ton trucks produced and more people restore the smaller trucks so that there is aftermarket support for them. There are no suppliers that provide the larger tailgates so restorers have to scramble around to find them.

Pics of the tailgate would definately help

As Bobby said, the large gate is for 3/4 and one ton trucks. Those parts are not reproduced, so used ones in any condition are all that's available for guys looking for one. It definitely has value. Don't throw it away. Try putting an ad for it, with pictures, in our classified section.

I looked at an F2 for parts once. The express bed was 6" wider, IIRC.
