2bls vs. 4bls

want to put a 351 in my 83' Bronco. would like to know some opinions on weather to use 2bl or 4bl carb. I own a newly rebuilt 2bl would have to purchase the 4bl. would like to have a list of pros and cons to help me make an informed desision. If you need more info to help me here is a list of things i use my bronco for:
hauling fishing baot
hauling motor cycle
hauling lawn mower
hauling 30' camper
and last but not least...
pulling chevys and dodges out of mod and snow.

Well, I have built engines with 2BBL carbs and have found if built right, you can get olmost as much torqe out of the motor as with a 4BBL. The 2BBL would be better at MPG.
Just my 2 cents.

Go with a four with vacumn secondarys. You will get better gas milieage if you keep your foot out of it. But you will have the extra power when needed.

The primarys are smaller on some 4 barrel carbs then a 2 barrel. So you actualy get a little better gas miliage with some 4 barrels.

I forgot to note that I do injoy the use of a 650 4 BBL holley carb and for offroading they work great even better with a slosh kit installed on both bowls.

Are you kidding I have never had any luck with a holley offroading they flood and spit, sputter off road, at least that is my experiences. Now the Eldebrock performer series they are great off road especally with the off road needle and seat, I would go with a 500 CFM elec, they are easy to work on and calibrate and they are good off road

I will have to agree with Jason915. The Edelbrock is by far the most trouble free carb on the market.

2bls vs. 4bls

I keep hearing about people having trouble with holleys, but so far I'vbe had very good luck with them. A stock holley will have trouble offroad, but if you install a swash kit in them, that fixes it right up. I've seen several people have trouble with the eldebrocks including my boss on his 88 dodge ram charger. We swaped for a 650 Holley with swash kit and he jumps hills with no problems, no floods, no sputering.
Another note, it really bugs me that companys advertise that you can just buy carbs and install them right onto your truck. You have to tune them a little acording to each engine. That includes Holleys and eldebrocks.
Just my 2 cents

2bls vs. 4bls

Holley = too much margin for error. The fuel bowls are too big the float adjustments too vague and the general specs too complicated for their own good. Go for a Q-jet if you absolutely have to have a 4bbl. One central float, (no side-to-side adjustments either), easy adjustments and I have NEVER had a Q-jet sputter from off-camber manuevers. Maybe thats because the fuel bowl is about as close to the CENTER of the carb as possible. Somebody call Holley and clue 'em in. One inch primaries and two inch secondaries. How can you go wrong?

As for 2 bbl's the Carter that came stock on the early Bronco is nearly impossible to beat...basically because it is set up much the same as the Q-jet minus the secondaries. Heck that Carter 2bbl will run at idle with the airhorn REMOVED. No, I'm not kidding, I've seen it done. Just don't hit the throttle with it like that.
