I was looking on the "build your own" page on Fords website, building my own (dreaming) 350 and 450 chassis cab. Really just making comparisons, and found there is $125 add for a midship 28 Gal fuel tank, or a $750 option for dual fuel tanks. The $750 is due to the mandatory package it comes with. (Kinda like the bills in the house and senate) I am left wondering, what do I get if I choose neither? There was no mention of what it comes with basic, and if the dual package is not just the basic plus the 28 Gal option then what is it exactly?
Not sure about '13 specs but in previous years the standard fuel tank is a 40 gallon mounted aft of the rear axle (where the spare tire is stored on pickup trucks). If you get the mid-ship tank, then the rear tank is deleted...handy for tow truck bodies etc...
If you get the dual tank option then you will have 68 gallons of total capacity. Transfer flow also makes midship tanks with larger capacity (34 and 50 gallon) but those systems run about $1200-$1500 so you are money ahead if you option it from the factory instead.
Interesting that there is an upcharge for less tankage, but I can see how like you say in the case of a tow truck it would be needed and will require some work on the part of Ford to do it differently. It would be nice to have the extra tank especially with the V10. To bad it come only with the other pork.
