Early 80's rust problems
Hey all
Over here from the 61-66 forum and I have a question about problem areas on early 80's truck.
My buddy desperately wants my '65. I know of an '83 and want to know what areas to look at for major rust areas.
Like on a '65 it is the radiator core support, floor pans, cab corners, cab crossmembers, etc.

Early 80's rust problems
from my own experience i would look at the radiator support structure, especially where the front-most cab mounts are and just around the edge of the wheel wells and the cab corners.

My 1980 was/is pretty rusty when I got it. These are the problem areas on it.
Wheel openings on all four corners.
Rear lower cab corners
Lower inside door sections.
Front floor pan and rear corners behind seats if the cab leaks.
Area of bed below taillights.
Rear frame area gets rust on it.
The top of both gas tanks near the crossmembers.

Early 80's rust problems
My truck rusted in all the areas mentioned plus, I have replaced 3 crossmembers on the frame, doors, fenders, cab corners, rear wheel openings, tailgate,hood, both fuel tanks, both exhaust, manifolds, and cylinder heads! are next!!!!, starter motor, floors, rockers, etc etc, all rusted out. I am now fighting with the wiring harness. I think this truck took a swim early in life.
