I have a 70 F250 SC, 2WD. Installed Headman headers. Removing the front crossmember (one Chado mentions above, 3 bolts each end) makes it quite easy.
The paint on new headers is typically only good for storage. I used a good quality header paint. Applied several coats and heated the headers in between each coat to bake the paint. Hightemperature paint requires heat for it to cure and harden. It's also important to not get any grease on the headers as you install them as this can cause the paint to discolor and burn when the header sget hot on initial run-in.
I live in British Columbia, Canada and the headers have been on the truck for 9 years. No holes in them yet, but they are due for repainting. I may replace them with ceramic coated model instead though.
chado, We always used white or black shoe polish to paint headers. It lasts a little while and you can always touch them up. use the bottled kind with the sponge applicator on top.
