V-10 under drive pullies?
Thanks
I use under drive on many of my hot engines... not so much for any HP gains but because I need to control the RPM of water & oil pumps, and alternators down to a reasonable speed on a high RPM engine. 8000rpm +
The aluminum "billet" pullys look cool so they sell well.
On a street vehicle, with sub 3000rpm cruising speeds, you will not get any measurable HP gains for the effort and cost involved.
Before everybody jumps my ***, re read the statement... at the rpm your engine is at, MOST of the time, there are little or no gains.
They do work at higher rpms.
My '96 T-bird 4.6L has a 130 amp alternator just like my '01 V10. When I put on the air conditioning, rear defroster, lights, etc., at idle, the voltage drops a lot, down to near 12 volts. Too low... replaced voltage regulator, even the entire alternator, same behavior.
My '01 V10 can take anything and the voltage never drops.
To me, it seems the V10 is overdriving the alternator more than the 4.6L, so the alternator keeps pushing out amps at idle.
Underdriving the pulleys on a V10 might free up more than you think. But, it would be useless for a work truck after that. Leave your lights and some other stuff on at idle, kill your battery...

BTW, I agree with you 1st SGT.
