I have a 93 f-150 4x4 with the 300 in it and it looks beautiful and seems to run perfect, but it has 164000 miles on it and im wondering if i should be thinking of buying a new one or if it is safe for me to invest in things like a nav unit (almost the value of the truck) or do u guys think it will most likely break on me soon and my investments to make it seem new to me will only put me deeper in the hole because i'll be looking for a new truck 3 months from now, because this one will innevitable throw a rod or something? lol. I'm only 18 and i want a cost effective way to make driving a truck fun again, that either includes lifting mine and outfitting it with gadgets or purchasing a new one.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Sep-02 AT 09:23 PM (EST)]Why do you need such a high $ GPS unit? You can get a good GPS unit for the price of one of your tires.
I recommend that you drive your truck and do anything that you want to it.
Your post is in regards to your truck mostly. If you have more questions about a GPS unit we can do it here. If it's about your truck this thread will end up locked by the webmaster.
GPS units can be a godsend if you are not so good with finding your way around. I plan on purchasing one for my wife as she can get lost quite easily. The one I want to get is the Garmin Street Pilot III. It is neat, you can enter an address and it will guide you turn by turn to the destination. It will warn you when your turn is coming up as well like: left turn 1/4 mile.... get in left turn lane....turn left. If you somehow take a wrong turn it will automatically recompute the route.
It isnt the most expensive out there, but at $700.00 it is quite an investment. On the good side it is portable so that you dont have to permanently mount it in your truck. Hope this helps.
i want the kenwood, because i always get lost around here, aint been here long enough............and it holds the whole us opposed to 1 state, and i like to travel. I do about 500 o 1000 miles a week and would be interested if their are alternative routes to my routine long trips
last time me and a buddy went four wheeling in a new location, we got sort of lost, ( ok, very lost ) and neither one of us ever rode in this area.
so as we are trying to figure out where we were and how to get back to the trucks, he lets me know that he forgot to pack his GPS unit for this ride. 2 hours later, we found our way out. thats a learning experience for sure.
well here's two other reasons i used to "talk myself" into buying one, is that this particular one can also play DVD's and if im going to do long trips with low cash, i can sleep in the truck hence watching the dvd's. Also, maps are useful, but not when ur alone and driving down a highway with no breakdown lane because ur risk of wrecking would be very high in this case. Also, it would make my truck more appealing to me and others because to be honest im kinda bored of it, I haven't had the money to add anything to it (which is what keeps my interest) and now i'd like to. I love my truck and if u visit my web page u can see how i like to keep it progressing. from bared bones i went and got tints and a stereo, then a cb and magnet antenna, then a tool box and dual whips, then an overhead console, then darker tints, then new tires.........etc. etc.
