[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Aug-02 AT 11:26 PM (EST)]I am working on a friends 1990 Ford. The surpentine belt came off and after some reasearch I'm postivie that the water pump needs to be replaced. Well I dont have much knowledge when it comes to working on cars but I like to try before I suck it up and take it to a shop. I've looked up the "directions" on how to replace the water pump. Welllll it isn't working out so well. First of all, how can you ge the fan shroud out with that fan still attached? They say you can but I can't get this one out.
Secondly I have the clutch wrench and holder, but for the life of me I can't get that fan clutch to loosen up. I am "trying" to turn it counter clockwise. Any advise on doing this would be great.
Thanks
BJ

My truck has no a/c, and my fan nut removed by turning clockwise (don't know if the different routing has anything to do with that or not), not counter-clockwise - I tried forever until I realized it. It came right off once I turned it the right way. Rest of the installation went pretty easy. I'm only a novice mechanic and still have no leaks.
DOH! - Sorry, I got carried away - mine was counter clockwise as well. I used a large, thin pair of slip joint pliers and a big crescent to get mine of.
well I got the new water pump on. Not much trouble. Now for the next question. In the process I had to loosen up the thermostat gooseneck. Well one side of the neck comes out the other just turns over and over and over, well now it leaks. How do you get the gooseneck off of the intake on these, so I can replace the gasket and thermostat?
Thanks guys
