EBPV delete

While my turbo is out I decided to delete the EBPV. I removed the butterfly and rod, & pounded in some 3/4 inch freeze plugs.
Are there any mods that need to be done to the pedestal, or can I just leave it the EBPV plunger unhooked? It's not leaking, but will it leak if left unhooked? Or do I have to gut it and tig weld the oil gallery's

Subscribing. I am rethinking if I need the guts there, will be taking turbo off in the near future for a rebuild.
Thanks for the question.

Tom, I found the answer here, EBPV Delete - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum
Or at least someones opinion on how they did the delete. Sounds good to me!

Good idea with the plugs. I wish I thought of that. I went the more expensive route because of convience and I figured a little extra flow couldnt hurt. I did nothing to the pedistal and I have had no problems. Its been mabe 2 months since I did it. Mine whistles a little more out the exhaust now, I'm sure yours will too. It seems like my EGT's went down a tiny bit also. Living in Florida the EBPV is dead weight for you.

No need to do anything to the pedestal, you don't even need to unplug the wires.

However wouldn't it suck to do all the work and then have the pedestal start to leak after a month or so?

Here is my tear down and inspection of the pedestal:

That's a might fine job you did there. unfortunately due to recent financial cut backs, I'm forced to go the cheap route.
I may however duplicate your work on my spare pedestal, and rebuild the spare turbo over the next few months just to have ready if the need should arise.

As usual, lot's of great answers. I was thinking how great it was to have, able to use the ebpv as an exhaust brake, but then keep reading warnings about possible valve float from the back pressure. The decel feature wasn't that impressive anyway. Plus I might solve a nagging oil leak.

I keep going back and forth to delete or not. I live in Montana and we sometimes get cold. the valve would be nice. but the oil leak isn't flowing, but its not dry either. there is a hose clamp keeping it open right now (that is the way I bought the rig)

did the delete in my truck, but now I have a van.

I am either doing a pedistal rebuild or delete.

I had my X running the other day while moving stuff around storage. I could hear the motor rev up some when the valve should have been shutting but that was it. No lights, no funny sounds, and the 7.3 warmed up just fine without the valve while idling away in the corner.

Frank: I didn't do anything to fancy with the pedestal. Just plugged the oil port which doesn't really need to be done and plugged the actuator arm hole. I mentioned the oil port hole could be drilled, tapped, and plugged as well if no tig is handy. I even thought if a guy had some ball bearings laying around you could find the right size to fit in the hole and then just punch the metal around the hole in a few spots to hold the ball in.

Pulling the turbo isn't much fun, I would get it all done the first time so no worries later on.

If you have more time than money you could send the pedestal to me and I can weld up the oil hole and plug the actuator hole and send it back for you.

I appreciate the kind offer. I finally got my turbo rebuild kit today. My truck is going back together sunday. It's been down all week

I'm basically laid off from work, so my budget just got real tight. I'll take my time rebuilding my spare turbo and pedestal for future needs.

I deleted my EBPV 5 yrs ago and unplugged the connector on the pedestal but now I think I might have a very small leak on mine. I might have to gut the pedestal and weld it up.

I went the more expensive route with the pedestal and outlet. Turbo definitely spools better and the truck seems to exhale much better.

I think I hear more turbo noise threw my stock exhaust after the delete but I'm not sure. Seat of the pants I can't tell anything but I am sure it helps some.
