I've searched and found conflicting answers for the torque specs on the trans pan torque specs. 6-10 ft lbs, 10-14, 12-16.
Can someone tell me what they should be please?
also, what is the torque spec for the drain plug on the torque converter?
lastly, i pulled the drain plug on the transfer case. I need the torque spec on that one too and how do I put it back in? when i pulled it out, a spring and another little thing popped out in my hand before i could see how it came out.
i assume in this order? https://docs.google.com/open?id=0Bzy...EJsQXNmcl9ncEU
i'm not sure, i've searched for 3 days online, here on the forum and find conflicting info. I purchased the service repair manual but it won't be here for at least another week. I don't like to do anything 1/2 a$$ed so before i put it back together i would like the proper torque specs on everything.
as for the drain plug on the transfer case. can you see the pic in the link i provided? that's what came out. just not sure what order they go back in. I'm assuming the way i have it laid out in the picture but I don't want to put the a$$ is assume
This is on a 86 F150 4x4 by the way if that helps any.
8-28 ft lbs for the torque converter drain plug? that's a pretty large range... I've read on here some people use loctite and some don't recommend it. Anything in the manual regarding it?
I would imagine it depends on manufacturing variances, how many times it's been re-installed in the past, stuff like that. I would just make it tight enough that it doesn't leak and/or come off.
Can you tell me the trans fluid capacity? from what searched i'm finding an average answer of about 12.5 quarts. I managed to drain just over 13. Unfortunately I never bothered to check the fluid level on the dip stick before dropping everything because I barely got the old girl home. I filled it back up with 13 quarts and it's reading high on the dip stick. I've let it idle, shift through the gears and took it around the block and still reading high. Did I put too much in? I've read that's bad, now i'm a bit worried
The shop manual doesn't specify refill capacities, and even the Owner's Manual lists them as approximate and says to use the dipstick.
The Owner's Manual says 26.8 U.S.-measure pints, 22.3 Imperial-measure pints. Which works out to ~13.4 U.S. quarts but, again, the dipstick has the last word.
The shop manual doesn't specify refill capacities,
Actually, that's not true, but I had to look in the General Automatic Transmission Service section, not the section specific to the AOD.
Shop manual says approx. 12 U.S. quarts with a little asterisk pointing to the Fine Print which says... when dry, and does not include the cooler and lines, use the dipstick to determine the actual requirement, check at normal operating temperature, and DO NOT OVERFILL (emphasis theirs, not mine).
