Hello My name is John and I am new to this forum but not new to turning wrenches and fixing things. I currently have a 2004 E-350 superduty van. I driven it for years without an issue. Recently during the hurricane I drove it about 500 miles round trip and parked it in my yard. I went to move it and the key cylinder felt funny turn it and nothing. The more I looked into it, i noticed that no matter the key position, the van appeared to think it was in the accesory position. radio, blower motor ect was on without key in ignition. I can also without key step on the brake and move the shifter park to L1 and back?? I replaced the cylinder and samething.
Thanks for any help
i haven't studied the newer econoline system, but the older trucks and vans had a small gear that slides over the tip of the lock cylinder, and engages a flat bar with gear teeth on one side, which works a rod going to the switch which is down the column under the dash. that gear system was known for wearing out and causing your symptoms. not sure if this applies to the newer ones like yours, but it might

Thanks going to follow the mechanism down the steeing column. I do see the flat bar and it appears to be engauging properly.I need my van back!
watch for it to move while turning the key. IIRC that bar and everything should move about an inch through the whole turn of the key. if its right then i would follow it down to the ignition switch
