1983 Rear axle seal part number?

Going through the brakes on a new-to-me 1983 F150 i6 4wd and noticed the rear driver side seal was letting gear oil into the brake drum.

So, I pulled the old seal, and went to the local parts stores, but no one can figure out what the part number is.

In their computers, for rear axle seal/wheel bearing seal they gave me a seal that was way too big.

Hoping someone on here knows the part number is and/or where to find it.

Thanks ahead of time.

Just an update. I tore open every seal at auto zone with no luck.

I'm thinking the rear end was swapped at some point.

The pumpkin has a tag, so I'm going to try and contact Ford to figure it out?

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

The tag info is going to be your best shot, see what the parts department at your local dealer can do with that and let us know.

Found out the situation...

The bearing in place was a repair bearing that shifts the position slightly outward on the axle to have the bearing ride on a different part of the axle.

The seal was part of the repair bearing and not available any other way.

I am going to replace the axle and get a new bearing and seal. Done. I hope.

Found something interesting?

When attempting to remove the differential fill plug, and finding it to be frozen and stripped, I found another place to fill the axle with fluid?

The "bolt" that holds the T for the rear break lines to go into a soft line is hollow. The hollow 'bolt' gives access to the interior of the axle, giving me access to fill it with gear lube. Took about 3.5 quarts.

Just need to find a good way to plug it. It already has rubber hosing around it, but is cut off. I think I'll just get a little longer section of hose and plug it with something and a hose clamp. That way, I'll be able to axess it later to fill.

That's a breather for the axle.
It needs to stay clear so pressure & vacuum can release.........otherwise oil can be pushed out past the seals & onto your brake shoes.

WOW. glad you replied with that info!

I just went and threw a small length of hose on it and plugged it with a bolt.

woops. guess I will change that to a longer length of hose and attach it up high under the bed of the truck.

Thanks for the heads up! Happy Thanksgiving.
