When you open the front pass door the dome light only triggers when the door is already open half way, pretty sure it's a broken wire.

I peeled back the rubber grommet the wires pass through in between the door and didn't see any connectors I could disconnect to remove the rubber to repair the wire.

My question is,I don't want to cut the rubber so what's the best way to get to the broken wire?I really don't want to remove the door.

 

Are you sure it's not the door ajar switch sticking?

 

Yes I'm sure. I can wiggle the grommet and the dome light Will go off and on.

 

In that case I would start inside the door behind the panel. You may even be able to disconnect the door ajar switch and pull that wiring through the inside by the foot well.
