Molasses and vinegar work well too. But be warned if you use vinegar keep an eye on it cause its strong stuff! When I pick up old rusty tools I soak em in vinegar for about 5 hours and then in molasses for a week. they comee out like brand new.

I set up 30-gallon system using scrap steel bars, a $6 box of soda, and my battery charger... plus it's usually done overnight.. I've rescued calipers, master cylinders, brackets, hardware, battery trays, tools, etc...It's super cheap too.. that store-bought stuff can get really expensive. During research, I found a thread where a guy built a plywood pool to de-rust an entire frame!
Here are before and after pics of my brake calipers. Absolutely no rust before I shot them with high temp caliper paint:
He has two pics....one derusted (top pic) and then the other after he spray painted the derusted parts (bottom pic). I don't think he is trying to fool anyone.

As an experiment I put four rusty screws from my truck (when I removed the rear taillight bezels from Rustoleum's bed [that I sold later]) in a plastic bowl with vinegar for one week (checking it once a day) just to see if it was indeed possible that it was a rust remover. It worked so well that the vinegar turned black & it was hard to find the screws due to that (Don't worry I didn't lose the screws [they went with the bezels when I sold them]). I recommend this method of rust removal if your cheap.
