Disc brake pad thickness ?
I've had the tires rotated a couple of times and every time the wheels are off I take a look at the pad thickness. It does not appear to change. I've double checked a couple times to make sure I was looking at the pad. The pads appear to be about 3/8"-1/2" thick which is as thick if not thicker than any of the other disc brake pads I've looked at. Granted all the other vehicles were either cars or small trucks so I would expect the pads to be a bit thinner. On my last truck, a '94 ranger, I was getting only 25-30,000 miles out of the front brakes. The stock rotors on that truck were pretty weak(thin) and one servicing(turning) would reduce the the rotors to the minimum usable thickness.
From what I've read here some people are getting 80,000+ miles out of their brakes. So am I correct in believing I have quite a bit of pad life left?
Thanks
Tim
Keep checking them when you have the wheels off. When they get down to about half of what they are now you should probably
remove the pads and look to see how close the rivets are to the pad surface to give you a better idea of when to replace them.
