Questions on dump trailers?

I've been thinking about investing in a dump trailer and have some questions.

First, which is better, a dual ram lift or the scissor lift?

Is there a preferred manufacturer?

Are the tarping systems worth getting?

What I have looked at and liked so far was a 12 to 14 ft, 14,000lb bumper pull.

I prefer the scissor lift. What happens on the dual ram system if one of the rams goes bad while you have a load and the good ram starts lifting? It will warp and twist the body of the trailer and might not be fixable.

Oh and I prefer the Hawk brand. Also some states require additional licensing when you have a trailer with a rating over 10k.

Scissor lift for that big. Depends on what you are going to carry if you need the tarp. I made one on mine and it lasted about 4 years. Time to make a new one.

I'd be leery of towing 14,000lbs bumper pull. Even newer trucks w/ weight distribution systems aren't rated for that much. I'm certain your '97 isn't rated for that. Why not get a gooseneck? Your truck probably still isn't rated to tow that much, but it would be MUCH more stable.

That is a very good point. My trailer is 10k. I have overloaded it and still pulled it. My 350 is DRW. It is more stable. But it was still testy. If your trans is stock it will go south really fast with the weight you are thinking. I don't think I would buy a trailer that heavy even for mine with a beefed up trans. What about just buying a dump truck? What are you planning to haul and how often?
