Okay, so I got the compressor off, the three bolts that are broken off have enough bolt sticking up past the bracket that I should be able to grab them with vise-grips to get them out. I'll likely do it tomorrow or the next day. I've got them soaking in PB Blaster for now.
You may want to see if you can just leave the compressor on and lean the whole bracket into the fan shroud and/or radiator to get enough room to do your business there. It won't be fun to remove the P/S pump if yours is anything like mine. Mine is three kinds of corroded, just like everything else on my truck.
Alright. I got one of the broken bolts removed. I turned it out with a pair of vice grips. That was the one that I projected would be the easiest to remove. The other two have been soaking in PB Blaster for DAYS. I attempted to remove a second broken bolt, and had no success. I'm going to bust out the Kroil tomorrow. I also may try to grind flat spots into opposing sides of each remaining broken bolt to assist the vise-grips in grabbing onto the stubs.
I don't have compressed air in that garage and my electric impact wrench would not have been strong enough to remove those bolts, I believe. I don't think there was anything I could have done. Those bolts are too long and allow too much flex. That, combined with the corrosion is just too much and something had to give. To give you a picture of how much corrosion there is involved here - even after I broke the bolts off, the parts that broke off were still difficult to remove. The only thing holding those parts on at that point was excessive friction due to corrosion.
DUDE! do you have the bracket off? If you do,hit me up and we can weld a nut onto it and we will warm it up with my torch. We can get them out no problem.
