Well this weekend just keeps getting better and better...

I'm off to NAPA here in a few to pick up idler pulleys for the Durango. They've been making noise for a bit, but now their getting scary. While I'm there, I'm going to order up the head set and head bolts for the 4Runner.

It looks like another week of driving the van to work - unless I play hooky Thursday to fix the 4Runner.

Ok guys, I know I'm being stupid and over thinking this. On my 90 F150 with the 5.0. Cold starts just fine. Hot start, won't hardly crank over. Let it sit, starts fine. There is a rear main leak, but I don't want to mess with that until I do the 5speed swap. Starter is the problem, right? Maybe I should change the oil in the starter.

I sure hope that's a typo - changing the oil in your starter.

It sounds like you have a heat soak problem. It could be your starter, but I would check the condition of your battery cables and condition of the connections first. If they all check out good, then you might need a new/rebuilt starter.

Curt. If, when you say, it hardly cranks, you mean it cranks but it's slow and steady. Then yes, it's most likely the starter. It could also be a bad connection on either end, or both ends of the battery cables. Best to clean them first. If it sounds like it cranks fast and then slows down, then fast, then slow, sort of like a surging, then I'd say it's ignition timing too far advanced.

I found some starter bolts and got the starter mounted in the '56. I even sorted out the driveshaft. I'm waiting on an offset u-joint for the front, then I can get the driveshaft in it. I should go back out and work on it some more, but, ....I don't want to.

I'm somewhat glad to see that I'm not the only one with a case of the I don't wanna's.

I've got a couple of things started on the wife's car, but not nearly what I should have. I've got a long weekend coming up so I'm hoping to get it done then.

It sounds like it can't even push past the compression in the engine. It doesn't turn fast, then slow down, then speed up. I've not messed with the timing since I've had the truck and it just started this.

Dave, I meant pulling the starter and cleaning it out. I know oil in starters is bad, but like I said, I don't want to have the pull everything apart for the rear main unless I'm going in with my 5 speed. Has a 4 speed in it now. Plan was to replaced everything between the rear crank flange and front of the transmission, but when the wife lost her job, that got put on hold. It's still on hold since I'm actually making progress on the jeep.

Well fellers, Terry. We're in Lebanon Tennessee calling it a night. Everybody's had a nice drive so far, except for the Tennessee idiots! It's looking like we'll be at the new house tomorrow evening instead od Tuesday morning sometime.
Rich, thanks for calling yesterday. It's allway's good to hear a friends voice. Safe travles this week. And get back home before Christmas!!! Tired and need a shower. Y'all BeHave

Unk Bob
