Does the addition of an extra spring or air bags change the max pay load of the truck on a legal level?
reason for asking is i snowmobile and i own an F150 but i have heard in bc that it is illegal to haul a deck with two sleds on a half ton. Just wondering if i upgrade the susension it will omit me from this, potential ticket?

No.
The only way a ticket that will stand up in court is if the load you're carrying is over the trucks rated cargo capacity which is the GVWR as found on the vehicles calibration decal(drivers door pillar) minus the curb weight which is the weight of the vehicle alone with no cargo or passengers.
The DOT and RCMP "WILL", not might pull you over if you have a sled deck on a half ton with two sleds on it in B.C. They will make you meet the GVWR on the door sticker even if it requires you to remove one sled from the truck and leave it on the side of the road.
The GVWR of the half tons will not allow you to have a sled deck with two sleds on it in most cases as far as I have calculated in the past. A minimum of a 3/4 ton is required. I have gone through this in the past. As far as I know there is no way to increase the GVWR.
id pull a 2sled trailer any day before getting messed up with a sled deck. had those when i worked land surveying... quads were okay but one way sleds were another ball game! So paranoid of falling off, machine falling off or putting a ski through the back window when loading them!
