Next time, just peek under the front to look for a front differential.

Where you located? I can take a gander on the craigslist ap im always on...

Since you're younger I imagine you might not be willing to travel as far to find what ya want.

Im in a state where salt is used in the winters...so trucks around me are rusty.
Thats why I am willing to travel to places without rust.. (texas, arizona, etc) typically a lot cleaner truck goes for a lot less down there.

Search the denver colorado craigslist. It aint a warm state by any means but they dont use salt.. its like some sand thing, so their trucks are rust free(well... less rust I guess?). Not to mention you are closer to Colorado than I am. lol

After doing my 4x4 conversion.....

I would be patient and find the truck you want, with the setup you want, the FIRST time.

Find one with the cab configuration you want, transmission you want, and 4x4. It will save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

Your lucky.

I got my front and rear '05+ axles, suspension, and all brackets for $1200 plus about 4 hours labor.

You should be able to install the axles without spending much more money if you use most of the stock parts from the donor truck. Use all the stock brackets, suspension, etc. Probably want to replace brakes, ball joints, sway bar bushings, etc while it's all out of the truck though.

the truck had 80K miles on it....

the trick is I need a spare 4r100 4x4 tranny and a 271 xfercase...

Once I find those then I can think about swapping.

The other complication is that when I bought the truck (just over a year now iirc) I put new tires on it.

So, I have to find a set of wheels and tires in budget too... and then what do I do about the old set? I spend almost $1K on tires after taxes...

Richard

EDT: on top of that, when I do the swap I want to add in a GV OD....

Yep, tons of fun doing a 4x4 conversion in december when it's below freezing. At least I had a dry shop to work in with a crappy propane heater.

If I would have waited and bought what I really wanted I could have put that time, money, and effort into better stuff, like go-fast mods!
