New Toy

I picked up my dream truck the other day. 1975 f250 crew cab 2x4 with a 460 4 barrel auto tran. It is a custom model( not sure what that means). I think it is a camper special due to the large radiator, the tie downs on the bed and power plug in the bed.

It has some dents and lots of surface rust, but no rot through or bubbling. Been sitting under a tree on a old farm for 10 years.

Found the owners Manuel and someone along the way wrote in the Manuel that they put a 460 from a RV in it at 123000 miles and the gauge cluster shows 33000. Maybe truck only has 133000.

Bought the truck non running for $700.

Just wanted to introduce myself, because as I get money to spend I'm sure ill have questions on how to do this or that.

Nice truck! Gunna have a build thread?

To my knowledge the camper specials were long beds, and the reason you have a big radiator is because you have a 460. I believe that the 4 core radiators were the only ones that could keep the 460 cool enough to run properly.

Wasn't planning a build thread because it is going to be a slow long project. My hours at work have been cut so my play/build funds are low. As I get money ill post what I do.

Thanks for the info good to know its not a camper.

After I clean it up, first thing is to get it running and safe so I can enjoy it, after that it will be converted to a 4x4.

welcome to FTE, you do know about the Crew Cab forum at the top of this list?

As far as "converted to 4x4" are you planning on putting the body on a different 4x4 chassis? Cause the other route is ALOT more work than you think.

Eng cross member, steering ect.... the frame is not made to have 4x4 stuff just bolted on it.

I did see the crew cab post at the top, but thanks for making sure I know. I'm sure ill spend a lot of time in there.

As for converting to a 4x4, I was planning putting the front end of another truck in. I would think that would have been easier than stretching the frame of another truck that already had 4 wheel drive. I'll look into it, thanks for the head up.
