[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Aug-02 AT 07:00 PM (EST)]I have a 96 E-150 5.8 van. I have a problem with steering being so touchy. The tires are new and properly inflated, everthing has been checked for problems and gets a clean bill of health. I want to install a steering stablizer on it... Is it hard? I am good with tools but never tried this.
hi...
have the same thing...but on an older van 1989...check your caster (I can't due to model/year) lower tire pressure, check toe in (do you have ribbed tires...they will follow and track very touchy) and the stearing stab will help but not cure it as mine did not...you can get one for under $40 from Kragen and it will have all the parts you need for an after market retro. They do look a little on the lite side but they are ok. It may be that the one I have could be a touch on the small size but it works ....but could work better...the problem is that the van will still shift under you but you will not feel it as much at the wheel...
check your wheels for loose wheel bearings, wear in them (sometimes the break pads will hold the wheel tighter than the wheel really is on the spindle when the van is jacked up off the ground) and have your wheel alignment done when the van is loaded for typical use.

good luck..
