I own a 2001 V10 and tow pretty heavy. I am going back and fourth on a new 6.0(don't really want to get into that cost since my V10 is half way paid off) or getting an under/overdrive installed. Has anyone installed it on their V10? I was also going to get an exhaust and new airbox. I want to stay away from headers and chips. Does Anybody have any suggestions? Please respond. I only tow on some weekends, but I live in San Diego so wherever I go I have to go up hills to get out of the city.

I occasionally tow from centeral Texas 1400miles west on I 10 to Tucson AZ and climb some fairly steep grades and have had no problem using high gear and staying between 65 -75 mph @3000-3800rpm with a tranny temp under 200F. Milage sucks but the truck pulls the tall hills just fine.
6800lb truck (see signature)
1200lb 2 Harlys in bed
5400lb TT on bumper
800lbs adults, dog, and gear
14,200lbs total
I pulled a trailer of tools and garage equipment from Pueblo Colorado to Centeral texas that scaled out at 16,643lbs gross combined..... only problem I worried about was the electric trailer brakes were shot and the F-250s took more punishment than I would like, but I didn't feel too unsafe.
V10 bone stock ( well ok, I put on an auxillery cooler and temp guage for the 4R100)
Added on edit:
I know some class C V10 motorhome owners who swear by the gearvendors over/under. Two of them also have the complete Bank package and thier only gripe was the cost (installed)

I have never weighed in at a scale w/ both truck and trailer. My truck weighed in at 7000 by itself. My trailer fully loaded is 12500. But i never travel w/ the water which is a 100 gallon tank. it is a toy hauler and the back 10 ft. is a garage which is rated for 2000 pounds and the most I ever have in it is about 800 pounds. So i figure when I am pulling it I am about at 17000-18000. I do have a tranny cooler on it. When I do travel I usually go up hills in 2nd at around 40 to 45 mph.The real long and steep hills is where the truck just lacks the power. The trailer brakes and the truck brakes work great. I was hoping that those extra gears would help me out enough instead of getting the 6.0.
Well you are a full 4K heavier yhan I ever pulled so I guess if I thought about it, I really was pushing it very hard at 16K LBS and I would have to admit that the V10 is probably not good much heavier than that, considering mountain driving.
If the option to move up to the power stroke is still there, I would recommend the change to the oil burner.
By the time you get the power up on the V10 and do enough trans, gear, and tire changes to get the extra power working. Well then you will have about cost as much as the PSD option.
But I took a look at the GearVenders site and if you are wanting to keep your truck I would seriously consider them as an option.
i use a gearvenders od on my drag car. 800hp and 670 ft lbs tq. it has been in use now for over 6 years. i have thought about putting one on my 2000 v10 motor home. the gearvenders has never let me down in drag racing and im sure it can take the abuse of heavy towing.
