96 f-350 4door 4x4 diesel...My heater has been moody for a couple of years now. Most mornings it is working fine however sometimes it would only blow cold. This year though it has only worked right once. I ask a friend and he said look behind the glove box and make sure the door is opening and shutting. I checked and it is. Any ideas fella's?
First thing I'd do is replace the core, couldn't ask for an easier vehicle to do that on, in my opinion, plus they are really cheap for this body-style.
Next I would check the connections for juice using an Ohm meter or test light, then replace any fuses, connectors or bad wires, lastly I would check the sensor and prolly replace it anyways (again a cheap part).
EDIT: The wire check includes three locations, first is the core's box, second would be to the controls, and third would be the sensor.
