it is on a customers truck, The shaft is flopping and the compressor wheel is destroyed. when I get the truck back I need to quick r & r it, I will then rebuild it and keep it for a spare.
Oh I see, good luck, I don't have one. Seen quite a few van turbo's for sale if you want to upsell the customer. Or relatively quick would be a center section swap and housing.
I have not, but for that money, I would replace the center cartridge for 500ish or turbine wheel and shaft with rebuild for 200ish and know it's good, but I guess if the compressor housing is way too far gone that would be another expense.

what is the difference of the Van turbo? I no longer have my truck, but have a van now. both were 00's .
I dont have a waste gate any more, been looking for a leak in the valley and found some issues like founding one of the bolts that holds on exhaust housing is not even screwed in and now on the floor of my van.
so I was thinking of buying a rebuilt also. not sure about rebuilding it my self. never done it. should I get a WW if I do?
might also change out the pedistal like i did on the truck, but can't remember the terms or names of it. something E.... delete.
will searching tonight, but saw this post. not trying to hijack it.

Van's don't have an intercooler so they have a larger exhaust housing dropping drive pressures and EGT's.
Unless you are having surge there is no need for an early(wicked) compressor wheel.
EBPV(Exhaust Back Pressure Valve) delete or "blank" pedestal.

I dont have surge cause its pretty guttless now as I need up pipes etc. (new to me vehicle that I am trying to get mechanicly sound) and the cylinder thing under the turbo is clamped open. I think that is one issue and why I want the delete pedistal. are there any ill effects on the blank pedistal? the oil only runs that cyclinder thing right?
I will research the rebuild stuff. thanks for the links. but curious. few years ago Riffraft was starting up and Dieselsite was big. Reps to both as I bought stuff from Dieselsite then and have already bought some parts from Riffraft, but waiting for warmer temps and funds.
thanks again for the help.
love this site and all the brothers/sisters on it with the wealth of info
I have a stock turbo and will rebuild it and ship it for about 1/3 of that. Shoot me a PM.

The van turbo has no wastegate, has a larger exducer on the turbine wheel and a larger AR exhaust housing (1.15 vs .84). This turbo moves more air than a stock turbo, but is a little slower to spool - really only an issue at high altitude.
The WW moves less air than a stock wheel and is a downgrade. It can help surge issue on trucks that have surge, but is generally considered more of a cheap bandaid than a solution.
on edit:
Ok, that was kind of a harsh slam... It does 'solve' surge for a lot of people!!!
Ron's Turbo Service (the guy you posted about from ebay) rebuilt mine a couple of years ago. He does a really nice job, has the equipment to get everything balanced. Turn around time was quick. It looked like brand new and is working well.
